What we offer today

Credit appraisal, underwriting and risk analysis for agricultural lending.

One service, working today, for three readers: the lender who decides, the guarantor or insurer who stands behind the loan, and the farmer, group or agribusiness whose case has to meet a lender's standard.

A person always makes the decision. LitFin Intelligence never lends, holds money, insures or guarantees.

Working today

One service, at the level you work at.

The same appraisal, underwriting and risk analysis runs at each level, in English or Swahili, one language at a time.

  • An individual loan: one borrower's file, appraised, underwritten and analysed for risk
  • A group loan: the group's file, read as the lender would read it
  • A whole portfolio: a portfolio review against the criteria you set

What you get

A file you can question line by line.

Not a verdict: the reading and its reasons, so the person deciding can see what it rests on.

The whole file, read

Every page, including photographs of handwritten ledgers. A page that could not be read is named.

A credit appraisal

The questions the file raises, answered from the evidence in it, in the form a credit committee reads.

Underwriting

Whether the season can carry the loan: the cash, the calendar, the security and the terms, set against the lender's own policy.

Risk analysis

The risks the file carries, each one named, with what raised it and what would settle it.

What every finding rests on

Each figure shows the page it was read from or the calculation behind it; an assumption is labelled as one.

What is missing

The gaps in the file, starting with the one that would most complete it.

Who benefits

The same work, for whoever needs the file read.

Each of these readers has a page of their own.

Lenders

Banks and microfinance institutions: a file you can question line by line and decide on

Who it is for

Where it stands

What works today, and what does not yet.

Works today
  • Credit appraisal, underwriting and risk analysis on agricultural credit files
  • In Tanzania, in English and Swahili
Being built, not live yet
  • Appraising a whole value chain as one case
  • Helping farmers form and run groups a lender can finance
  • Village-based agronomists confirming on the ground what a file says
  • Following a financed season as it runs

How the parts being built fit into the whole has a page of its own.

How it works

The company and its team are described on the About page.

How to start

Send a file, or bring a case.

Send a file

If you lend, guarantee or insure: send a few agricultural files you have already decided. A redacted copy is enough.

Talk to us

Bring a case

If you farm, lead a group or run an agribusiness: tell us what you want to finance and what records you hold. We prepare the case for the lender you choose.

Bring your case
